Die Feier Im Grabe : 7 songs for baritone and piano, written on old Egyptians poems / Steven Hoogenberk
Description:
In ancient Egypt, Death-culture took an important place in daily life. Everything was done to make life in the Hereafter as beautiful and pleasant as possible, so death could be considered as a continuation of earthly life. Remembered by numerous images and texts on the walls of the tomb, one was well prepared to receive death as an improvement, as a shelter, as a homecoming after years of imprisonment.
The poem of the last song - Ein Lied auf den Tod - describes in a lyric way all the happiness you can expect when Death is standing before you. These beautiful lines are full of love and warmth, without any bitterness. The used texts all come from the volume "Old Egyptian Love Songs", translated by Siegfried Schott into German, Edition Artemis, Zürich (1950)
