Description:
This string quartet - inspired on the classic four temperaments (Hippocrates) - is in fact a normal quartet with 4 movements in 4 different moods. However, the composer cannot deny that he has, in a rather associative way, experienced the strong inspirational power of this very old psychological typology.
The specific qualities of each character become through the music a kind of musical portraits and can tell you something about yourself and others... The Phlegmatic: - connected to Water - is calm, peaceful, somewhat closed, dreamy and needs time. The Choleric: - connected to Fire - is impatient, busy and irritable, directive and focused (on the future). The Melancholic: - connected to Earth - is serious, with a tendency to the dark sides of life; but also analytical, quiet and wise. The Sanguinic: - connected to Air - is enthusiastic, light hearted and social, with many interests, but also superficial and hurried.
