Canzone : per 4 corni, 3 trombe e 3 tromboni, (1973-'74) / Ton de Leeuw
Description:
Program note (English): The players sit in a specific spatial location with respect to each other. It is important thereby that the angles and lines that are formed are relative to the size of the performance space. This set up is definitive for a number of musical givens. There are contrasting groups which are formed, and dialogues between the players. Rare styles of playing are present in the brass; very mobile, ornamental motives, which one would expect in the woodwinds, but also neatly, prescribed micro-intervals. The title Canzone suggests - as in the Renaissance - a somewhat free instrumental form. The six parts differing in length flow into each other and are not meant as independent movements. - TON DE LEEUW
