Renge-kyō : for harp and percussion / Olga Victorova
Description:
Renge-kyō for harp and percussion by Olga Victorova was written under the impression of the trip to Japan in 2014. One of the highlights of staying in Tokyo was visiting the liturgy of the Buddhist branch of Nichiren Shoshu. The title Renge-kyō refers to the Japanese title of the Lotus Sutra. Unlike other Mahayana Buddhist practices, Nichiren expounded the Lotus Sutra and chanting Nam-myō hō -renge-kyō as a way for anyone to obtain Enlightenment regardless of one's position in life, condition of circumstances. The rhythm of uttering the sutra Nam-myō hō -renge-kyō , which formed the basis of the percussion’s party, is supplemented in the composition with refined harmonies of harp.
