composition
Pomogi mne, Bozhe Gospodi! : for soprano solo and choir a cappella / Olga Victorova
Description:
The music of the choir is based on wedding lamentation “Help me, O Lord My God!” from a collection by Tatiana Kaluzhnikova “Lamentations and songs of traditional Ural wedding” (Yekaterinburg, 2013). In old Russia during a wedding ceremony the bride used to give symbolically her ‘maiden beauty’ to the girlfriends who hadn’t been married yet. This ceremony was accompanied by singing ‘Help me, O Lord My God, to give my maiden beauty to my lovely bridesmaids!’
