Light refractions : for guitar, viola and double bass / Nicoline Soeter
Description:
Light Refractions is a free-form composition that plays with the glassy sound of high harmonics and multiphonics. The associative title came about during the compositional process as an image for the overtones and microtonal bends that are generated. The phenomenon of refraction arises when two substances, such as glass and water or water and light, meet. The light changes direction at the point where they intersect.
My work is frequently inspired by scientific observations such as, in this case, an elementary physical phenomenon. I prefer to work these influences out in a poetic interpretation.
