composition
Jesus the Sweetest : for viola / Olga Victorova
Description:
The title of the piece is related with the Orthodox prayer text, beginning with “Iisuse sladchayshiy, spasi nas greshnykh” (“Jesus the sweetest, save us sinners!”). Some sections of this piece are marked with liturgy texts which are to help to correlate the rhythm of music with the rhythmical structure of the corresponding text.
To imitate soft articulation of Orthodox prayer prosody Olga Victorova invented a unique legato method on two strings for repeating sounds. Composer’s fingering indicates the way to attain the right character.
