composition
Rosh Chodesch : for violin / David Mastikosa
Description:
Rosh Chodesch for solo violin was commissioned by and dedicated to the young violinist Andrea Nikolic. Its "misspelled" title is not accidental. The hidden essence of this work is the melody of the folk song Kad ja podjoh na Bembasu, and is intertwined with its history. This melody can be heard not only in Sarajevo, even though it is one of the most recognizable musical symbols of the city, but also during Jewish holidays. This melody can be heard during the prayer that is read and sung in Hebrew during the holiday of Pesah, under the name of Rosh Chodesh.
