Spans : bass clarinet solo, 1981 / Klas Torstensson
Description:
Program note (English): The title refers to the extended radius of action of the bass clarinet within the piece (repertoires of articulation, motion, gestures), and to the uses of spectra: through varying the embouchure (lip pressure etc.) 'natural' harmonics are gradually added to the 'normal' tone, resulting in spectra of an exactly prescribed ambit (width). There is also an extended version, Spans/Spännvidder, for bass clarinet, contrabass clarinet and two percussionists; the bass clarinet part is identical for both versions. - KLAS TORSTENSSON
