Description:
Program note (English): The title of this piano concerto refers to a big, venomous spider, the Tarantula. Its bite, according to South-Italian folklore, causes nervous cramps: uncontrolled spasms and trance-like movements, which lead to the inevitable death of the victim. The Tarantella, a mery, passionate dance in 6/8 time, is based on this tale, but has no place in Tarantula, which is a serious, one-movement composition with a virtuoso character. - JOCHEM SLOTHOUWER
