Description:
Program note (English): I see how far I can go with the use of kitsch. In modern music people are afraid of what is banal, cheap and too tonal. For me these taboos aren't relevant anymore. These taboos go back to views from the fifties and sixties, the heyday of modernism. These taboos still determine the sound of modern music. The sound of modern music is out of date. Go to a contemporary music festival: the old rules that determine what music should be like still prevail there. In my music I try to question these unwritten rules. I see how far I can go with the use of kitsch, without letting the work as a whole become kitsch. Jacob ter Veldhuis already calls himself the Jeff Koons of modern music. Maybe I am the Roy Lichtenstein. - JOEY ROUKENS
