Program note (English): [Première: 6 november 2005 - De Burcht, Leiden - Kamerkoor Ad Parnassum o.l.v. Anthony Zielhorst] - Slaapstad is the title of a poem by Diana Ozon which I have used for this composition. I used `Slaapstad' because of the unmistakable musical properties: in nearly each sentence a form of sound has been utilized which is related to that term: `rumour, making music, jabbering, tones, ears, listen to, throb, whine. In a varied idioom in which 32 voiced consonances alter with unisono melodies, the numerous consonance properties of the poem are emphasised. - HUUB DE VRIEND
