Born in 1974 in Hiroshima, the Composer, Improviser, and sound artist Daisuke Terauchi received his master’s degree from the Elisabeth University of Music in Hiroshima in 1999 studying under Koji Tomotani and Jo Kondo. He lived in Amsterdam from 2004 to 2007, studying at the Rotterdam Conservatory, Rietveld Art Academy, and the Amsterdam Conservatory. In 2016, He received a PhD, writing his dissertation on the work “Cobra” by John Zorn.
He has written works for chamber music ensembles, engaged in performance art and improvisation, and composed background music for aquariums, computer software and school songs. In addition, he has produced sound installations, musical card games, and interdisciplinary works. In the field of improvisation, he performs not only in concert halls but also in clubs, museums, and even on the street, employing mostly his voice along with an eclectic array of instruments with many artists from various fields such as dance, painting, calligraphy, and computer music.
He is presently teaching at the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences of Hiroshima University as an associate professor. He has presented his compositions and improvisations at art festivals and concerts in 13 countries and published many of his scores and recordings.
