Date of birth: c.1486
Date of death: 1543

Ludwig Senfl (c. 1486-1543) was born around 1486, possibly in Basel. He lived in Zürich from 1488 until 1496 when he joined the choir of the Hofkapelle of Emperor Maximilian I in Augsburg. In 1497 he followed the Hofkapelle to Vienna and there he got his training for the priesthood. During this period he studied with Heinrich Isaac and served him as his main copyist. He followed Isaac after the latter’s death (in 1517) as court composer.
