Ruud Roelofsen was born on the 16th of november in Rhenen (NL). His passion for percussion has been stimulated at a very young age by both of his parents. When he was eight years old Ruud got his percussion lessons in the Music school of Veenendaal (NL) with teacher Evert Gombert. On the age of 13 he started in the young talent class of the ArtEZ conservatory in Arnhem (NL) where he studied with Ruud Stotijn, Gert Bomhof and Martin Geessinck. Ruud received his bachelor degree with highest honours for percussion in the same school studying with Peter Prommel, Jan Roel Hamersma, Jan Wissink, Martin Geessinck and Ruud Stotijn. In 2008 he studied as an Erasmus Exchange-Student at the "Musikhochschule Münster in der Westfälischen Wilhelms-Universität" with Prof. Stephan Froleyks and Armin Weigert.
Ruud received his Masterdegree also with highest honours for percussion at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels where he studied with Gert Francois, Bart Quartier and Bart Bouckaert.

Ruud received masterclasses in composition with Dimitri Kourliandski, Carola Bauckholt, Richard Ayres, Ted Hearne and Martijn Padding.

Ruud worked closely with key-figures of contemporary music like Helmut Lachenmann, Peter Ëotvös, Yannis Kyriakides, Mark Applebaum, Wolfgang Heisig, Symon Clarke, Matthijs van Driel, Dolf de Kinkelder, Barry Guy, Kris Defoort, Kim Cascone, Will Eisma, and others. In 2005 Ruud won the composition project of the Dutch Ensemble “Orkest de Ereprijs” and in 2011 he was a semi-finalist in the Gaudeamus Interpreters Competition.

He got his orchestral experience in orchestras like the Arnhem Philharmonic, the “Orkest van het Oosten”, “het Noord Nederlands Orkest”, Brussels Philharmonic, Orkest de Ereprijs, '"Sizzle" ensemble for modern music' and “Fanfarekorps Koninklijke Landmacht Bereden Wapens"

Because of the enormous financial support of the “Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds”, the “Jan en Tina Huizinga Fonds” and the “Petronella Andriessen Fonds” Ruud was able to purchase a wonderful new marimba in 2011. In 2012 he received the “Ingeborg Köberle” award as highly promising student and for his exceptional performance skill in the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. In 2012 he was a composer for the Miso Music Soundwalk at the Goethe Institut in Lissabon during the Musica Viva Festival 2012. In 2013 he was selected for the “Young Composers Meeting” in Apeldoorn.
