Kurbatov, Alexey

Alexey Kurbatov is the Russian composer, pianist and teacher. He has composed his first piece when he was just five years old followed by a ballet written at the age of six. As a pianist Alexey has performed in more than hundred cities around the world. He has released several CD on various labels. Alexei’s performances have been broadcasted on radio and TV in Russia, Armenia, Belgium, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Ukraine, Croatia, Kazakhstan. Alexey has collaborated with such world-renowned artists as Vladimir Spivakov, Misha Maisky, Maksim Vengerov, Vadim Repin, Gerard Depardieu.
Distinguished by originality and uniqueness of their musical language, works of Kurbatov are inspired by the best traditions of the world’s symphonic and chamber music. At the same time, his music belongs to the Russian culture and is deeply linked with the historical context. That prompted the creation of such works as the Symphonic Poem "1812", Poem for narrator and a trio "Leningrad Apocalypse" (commissioned by the widow of the famous Russian mystic writer Daniil Andreev) and The Third (Military) Symphony which was premiered in St. Petersburg, on September 8, 2012 (the Memorial Day of victims of the siege of Leningrad). This concert in the Grand Philharmonic Hall was broadcasted live in the open air and became an important cultural event in St. Petersburg.
Symphonic and chamber compositions of Kurbatov are performed in many countries including Russia, Armenia, Austria, Belgium, Belarus, Brazil, Great Britain, Hungary, Germany, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Canada, China, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, France, the USA, Ukraine, Croatia, Sweden, Switzerland, South Africa, South Korea, Japan. His music is heard in such venues as Carnegie Hall (New York), Salle Gaveau (Paris), Grand Philharmonic Hall (St. Petersburg), The Great Hall of Moscow Conservatoire and many others. A number of performers has chosen to include his music in their CDs. Among other compositions of Kurbatov are eight symphonies, the operas "The Black Monk" (first performed at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire in 2014) and “Homecoming”, seven instrumental concertos, three symphonic poems, a number of chamber music and vocal works, music for films etc.
Alexey gives master classes in many cities of Russia and is being invited as a jury member of some music competitions. Also Alexey teaches at the Moscow Conservatory.
