Bohdana Frolyak is a composer, author of numerous chamber, symphonic and choral works. She teaches composition at Mykola Lysenko Lviv National Music Academy. Born in 1968 in Vydyniv village in Western Ukraine, she graduated from Mykola Lysenko Lviv State Music Academy in 1991, where she studied composition under Volodymyr Flys and Myroslav Skoryk. In 1998 Bohdana completed her post-graduate studies under prof. Myroslav Skoryk at Lviv Academy of Music.
In 2017, Bohdana Frolyak has been awarded the Shevchenko National Prize for her works on Schevchenko's poetry — "Humble Soul", "Cvit", "Dream". Bohdana also received the Lewko Revutsky National Award for the Orbis Terrarum symphony (2000); Borys Liatoshynsy National Award for the Clarinet concerto (2006); Mykola Lysenko National Award for her Symphony No. 2 (2010); and Stanislaw Lyudkewych National Award for Diptych after Shevchenko and chamber works (2011).
Bohdana is a recepient of scholarships by Warsaw Autumn Friends Foundation, Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung (2001), Minister of Culture of Poland (Gaude Polonia 2004).
Bohdana's music has been performed on various festivals of contemporary music in Ukraine and abroad, including Contrasts (Lviv), Two Days and Two Nights of New Music (Odesa), Kyiv Music Fest, Premieres of the Season (Kyiv), Days of Sacred Music (Uzhhorod), Warsaw Autumn, Festival of Krakow Composers, Witold Lutosławski Forum of Contemporary Art in Lublin (Poland), Menhir Festival (Switzerland), Festival of New Music in Berlin and Cologne (Germany), Days of Ukrainian Music in Azerbaijan, among others.
Bohdana's works have also been performed in USA, Canada, Great Britain, France and other countries.
14.07.2023 the premiere took place of a piece by Bohdana Frolyak “Let There be Light” for symphonic orchestra on the opening of the Festival of classical music BBC Proms in London (commissioned by BBC Proms), performed by BBC Symphonic Orchestra and conducted by Dalia Stasevska.
