composer

Févin, Antoine de

Antoine de Févin (c.1470-1511) was a composer from the Netherlands (in the 16th century stretching from the North Sea to Northern France). Most likely he is born in Arras (France) and he was a contemporary and follower of Josquin Desprez.
Very little is known about his youth and education. Though most of the Franco-Flemish composers went to Italy for employment at the numerous courts of dukes and cardinals, it is only speculative that De Févin went this way. It is said that he became a priest and obtained an academic degree, but none of it is certain. By 1507 he was working as singer and composer at the Chapelle Royale of Louis XII of France, who praised him highly.
He died at Blois at the end of 1511.
