Maarten Bauer (2000, NL) is currently studying Composition with Martijn Padding, Calliope Tsoupaki and Cornelis de Bondt. Additionally, he follows minors in Classical Saxophone, Classical Voice and Education at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague. During his high school education, he also followed the pre-studies Classical Saxophone and Composition with Wilbert Bulsink at ArtEZ Conservatoire Zwolle.
Bauer is connecting western classical music with other world music, particularly Indonesian traditional music. Furthermore, he combines other disciplines of art like poetry, theatre, film and photography with music. He is extremely interested in music and its social meaning and context: ‘what does my music mean?’
Orchestras and ensembles that Bauer collaborated with and composed for are inter alia the Residentie Orkest, Amersfoorts Jeugd Orkest, Ricciotti Ensemble, New European Ensemble, Orkest de Ereprijs, Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, Jong Nederlands Ensemble, Kluster5, Keuris Quartet, Armonia Quartet, Trio Burlesco, Trio Chimaera etc.
His compositions have been performed in the Netherlands during the Grachtenfestival, Gaudeamus Muziekweek, Dag in de Branding, Spring Festival and in Tivoli Vredenburg, Museum Voorlinden, Zuiderstrandtheater and Korzo Theater.
