Ali Authman
Ali Authman is a Kurdish/Dutch composer, received his first music lessons at the age of 14 by Adil m. Said. He then studied viola by As’ad M. Ali and other music lessons at the college of Fine Arts (Music Arts) at the University of Baghdad. From 1994 to 1996 he was Teacher of music at the Music Department of Sulaymaniyah Institute of Fine Arts and during these years he was also a member of the Orchestra of Sulaymaniyah. In 1997, he fled to Netherlands. He studied composition with Alex Manassen from 2002, after his bachelor (2006) he gets his master's degree at the Messiaen Academy – ArtEZ Conservatory in Zwolle - Netherlands (2009). He has participated in different composition workshops with different composers and ensembles. His compositions are performed in different countries.
His composition (White Darkness) for chorus and Orchestra is performed in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam (2008 – commissioned by UAF) by Toonkunst Choir Amsterdam/Nijmegen with Parnassos Symphony Orchestra conducted by Boudewijn Jansen. His composition (Invocation) for Symphony Orchestra performed during Beethovenfest in Bonn (2011 – commissioned by DW) by National Youth Symphony Orchestra of Iraq conducted by Paul MacAlindin. He composes for different ensembles: solo instruments, Chamber music, Symphony Orchestra, voice and choir. His compositions often have other cultures as a source of inspiration especially music and colors from of his native Kurdistan
