Dr. Hana Ajiashvili was born in Tbilisi, Georgia and received a Master Diploma in piano and composition from the Music Sergiashvili Academy in 1995. In 1996 she continued her composition studies with the composer Vladimir Tarnopolsky at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, and worked with the Studio for New Music and also with the Young Composers’ Committee of the Moscow Composers Union. Her works have been performed in festivals such as Moscow Autumn and Alternativa, and in concerts in Germany.
In 2001 she immigrated to Israel and continued her activities as a composer and director at the Or Yehuda Conservatory. In 2007 she completed her doctorate at Bar-Ilan University, under the supervision of Gideon Lewensohn and Betty Olivero.
Among her prizes are First Prize at the Israel Contemporary Players’ Young Israeli Composer’s Competition 2004,in 2007 her music for the film Miracle received awards in Poland, Belgium and China, in 2008 she received the Prime Minister’s Award for Composers, in 2011 won commission from Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation for the new piece “Zoominout” for the ensemble “The Israel Contemporary Players”.
Her works are frequently performed in concerts and festival in Israel and abroad such as ACL festival, “Sound Roads” in Sankt-Peterburg”, “Dresden nights”, “Ha-teiva marathon” in Tel Aviv, festival SaxOpen in Strasburg and concerts in London, Madrid, Amsterdam, New York and more.
Hana’s music is in repertoire of such well-known ensembles as Continuum (New York), Studio of New Music (Moscow), Meitar (Tel-Aviv), Ensemble XXI Century (Tel Aviv), Musica Nova (Tel-Aviv) and others.
